Halal in Amsterdam

No Michelin-starred restaurant in Amsterdam is halal-certified. That does not mean fine dining is off the table: you have two routes.

Route one: upscale halal kitchens

A small group of upscale restaurants, mostly steakhouses and chef-led tasting concepts in Nieuw-West, De Pijp and near Leidseplein, serve halal meat at a fine-dining level. You will find them in our restaurant guide under "Fine dining", each with its verification status.

Route two: the starred pescatarian menu

Amsterdam's starred kitchens, including Ciel Bleu at Hotel Okura, Flore at De L'Europe and Spectrum at the Waldorf Astoria, will prepare a pescatarian or vegetarian tasting menu with an alcohol-free pairing when asked in advance.

Copy this into your booking e-mail"Please note our dietary requirements: no alcohol used in the preparation of any course, and no pork or pork derivatives, including gelatine. We would like the pescatarian menu with the non-alcoholic pairing."

Send it a week ahead. Dutch kitchens prefer clear instructions, and they honour them. Want us to arrange it? Our VIP Concierge makes the reservation for you.
