Halal in Amsterdam

Jumu'ah in Amsterdam usually starts between 13:00 and 14:00, depending on the season. Here is how to choose a mosque as a visitor.

Staying in the centre: Fatih Mosque

Rozengracht 150, in the Jordaan. The khutbah is in Turkish and it gets busy, so arrive at least 20 minutes early.

For the experience: Westermoskee Ayasofya

Piri Reïsplein 101 in De Baarsjes, about 15 minutes by tram. A grand Ottoman-style mosque with a women's section and a tea house. In summer the overflow fills the courtyard.

Want to understand the khutbah? Blauwe Moskee

In Slotervaart, with a sermon given partly in Dutch, alongside Arabic.

After prayerThe West-side grills and patisseries have their busiest, happiest hour of the week. Have lunch near Kinkerstraat, then walk along the Schinkel to Vondelpark.

Times and languages change; always check the mosque's own timetable on Mawaqit. Full details are on our Jumu'ah guide.
